A tall scape (leafless stem), rising above the leaves, holds 5 to 20 creamy white flowers with yellow stamens and 6 tepals of similar size and shape and all evenly spaced. The star-shaped flowers open sequentially from bottom to top. The withering tepals twist together around developing papery capsules. Blooms from May to July.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ecology:<\/strong>\u00a0moist open areas, wet meadows, hillsides and roadsides, only found in few locations in southern Oregon at low to mid elevations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Growing Conditions:<\/strong>\u00a0full sun to partial shade in fertile, acidic, humus soil.
