Habit:<\/strong>\u00a0upright but low growing shrub having spreading to arching branches with gray green oval to round leaves. Mature bark is woody and gray peeling away with age while young branches are slender, reddish brown and hairy. Dainty flowers are pale pink and tubular to bell shaped appearing either alone or in pairs from the leaf axils. Fruit are snow white berries, which persist through most of the winter. Leaves turn lemon yellow in autumn.<\/p>\n

Ecology:<\/strong>\u00a0found in the Southwestern United States in montane to subalpine woodlands on slopes, ridges, and in open forests from 3600-10,800 ft (1100-3300 m).<\/p>\n
